History of the BMW 02 Touring
Big mouth, a lot behind it, that's what the visitors of the international automobile show in Brussels thought in 1971. Here the Touring was presented to the trade audience for the first time. This “estate coupe” inherited the sporty mix of superior driving performance and high practical value from its brother, the 02 sedan. Up to the B-pillar, the Touring was identical to the sedan in terms of structure and engine, but the rear area offered more variability and much better utility and thus matched the changed leisure behavior of this generation. The new, brisk, sporty design freshened up the 02 series significantly. Technically, the engines were installed from 1.6 to 2 liters. While the sedan also received new, now rectangular taillights as part of a facelift in 1973, the touring retained the round lights so typical of the 02 until the end of production in 1974. A total of 25,827 units were built.

The BMW tii touring offered here was first ordered by the Lower Saxony Office for the Protection of the Constitution and used for terrorist surveillance. A rare option at the time was an electric steel sunroof that was also ordered. A delivery certificate from BMW is available. Two decades later, BMW 02 Pope Andy Andexer discovered this vehicle and restored it nuts & bolts and without compromise. Among other things, the body was completely KTL-coated before painting. In addition to a steel sunroof, the occupants are spoiled with leather-covered sports seats. Even the dashboard is not only equipped with original Alpina additional instruments, but also covered with leather. The engine was completely overhauled, a revised 5-speed sports gearbox was installed, and a Bilstein chassis. Even the original radio of the Office for the Protection of the Constitution is still there. Auxiliary headlights in chrome were also installed at the time. A Classic Data report from 2018 gave this historic BMW touring a grade 1 with a value of € 69,000. After completion, this tii-touring was transferred to an extraordinary BMW collection. Paintwork, interior, technology are still in excellent condition.
