Description

Motodrome offer for sale this rare early example one of our favourite sports coupes – a 1980 BMW 635 CSi (E24) Automatic, finished in Royal Blue with full Pacific blue leather trim.

As above, this is one of the now very rare, and uber-cool, early E24’s. Before 1982, their underpinnings were based on the E12, but thereafter they’re based on the E28. Cosmetically, the early cars have a different dash and rear bumper assembly, and use the 3453cc M90 engine with 215hp.

And yes, as it was built late 1979 and first UK registered 18th Jan 1980, it can legally wear black and silver plates.

I love the look of these early cars as the styling with the chrome bumpers and no spoilers is unadulterated and just as Paul Bracq penned it in the mid 1970’s, Without a doubt, the E24 is one of the finest designs ever to come out of BMW.

This one has the usual early E24 spec - fitted with full leather, ZF 3HP22 automatic gearbox, lattice alloys (shod with a matching set of recent Dunlop tyres), BMW comfort seats, and electric sunroof/windows/mirrors.
It’s also fitted with remote alarmed central locking with immobiliser, and a more modern stereo than it would have had initially, with Bluetooth and USB.

This one has an odometer reading of 118000 miles, and we have history including gearbox replacement in 2021, other bills, and old MOT’s back to 1995 and 112k. Other recent work, according to the previous owner, includes new Dunlop tyres 1500 miles ago, rocker cover gasket, steering pump lines and fuel lines replaced in September 2022, gearbox mount and aux belts replaced in September 2023, and new battery 2023. Last serviced at 116500m

It comes with our usual 6 months warranty on sale.

We have the book pack with owners handbook, some rare early E24 promo material and 2 sets of keys/fobs

Apart from the classic ‘sharknose’ looks, it’s the driving experience that counts with these, and in 1980 the tagline ‘The Ultimate Driving Machine’ fitted the E24 extremely well. 44 years later, following a fast drive out of Central London, I can confirm it still drives really nicely.

On our own website, you’ll find our usual 2 videos: a walkaround appraisal, and driving impressions.
