BMW E30 V8 – radical conversion with street legality
A V8 has been created from a BMW 318i E30. The donor vehicle, in excellent condition with two previous owners and 100,000 km on the odometer, served as the base. A V8 from a 740i was transplanted here, along with completely new axles, a transmission, and other components from a 5 Series. Beyond that, the E30’s technology stops at the 6 Series.
Features include sports seats, a 5-hole suspension conversion with Alpina wheels that have been powder-coated black to match the factory Shadowline elements. Large brakes, stabilizers, and reinforcements turn this speed-hungry wolf in sheep’s clothing—complete with a bobblehead dog on the rear shelf—into a Porsche-slayer. Pure understatement.
Anyone willing to pay up to 40,000 euros for a Golf I GTI or nearly 20,000 euros for a restored 2CV will find this an absolute bargain. The project cost over 50,000 euros, with just registering all components costing the previous owner 3,600 euros at TÜV Nord. An additional 4,000 euros was spent on the Alpina wheels.
