Gateway Classic Cars of Dallas is proud to present this stunning 1968 Chevrolet Camaro SS396 Tribute.

Despite what you may hear or see in today's market, not every first-generation Camaro has vanished into the stratosphere of collector pricing. They're not all ultra-rare museum pieces - and that's exactly what makes them so appealing. These are cars you can drive, enjoy, and modify to your heart's content, supported by one of the strongest parts networks in the classic car world. And nothing says "American muscle legend" quite like an early Camaro - instant recognition, curb appeal, and street cred everywhere you go.

This 1968 SS396 could easily be the real thing, but without numbers on the block, there's no way to know. It is a shining example of what makes these cars great. Built with a clear focus on driving enjoyment, this big block 4-speed beast has been restored to a level of quality that makes it as fun to show as it is to drive. According to the VIN, it left the factory as a V8 coupe, and while its original SS pedigree may be a mystery, the presence and performance it delivers today leave no doubts - this is the SS396 experience.

Originally painted Butternut Yellow, this Camaro now wears a vibrant electric blue finish - a stunning hue that falls somewhere between Fathom and Lemans Blue, beautifully offset by white SS stripes. The body is super nice, with a recent wet sand and polish that brings out a deep, rich shine. The stripes are buried under the clear for a seamless finish, and it's clear the car was fully disassembled before paint - no shortcuts here.

All the trim has been carefully restored or replaced-the chrome glistens with quality reproduction pieces, including those iconic simulated hood vents. The drip rails and wheel well moldings are clean, and the emblems and lenses are sharp and correctly mounted. Even the glass is in great condition, rounding out a car that looks every bit as good as it drives.

Pop the hood and you'll find a highly detailed engine bay, presenting just like a real L78 SS396. From correct-style radiator hoses and tower clamps to authentic smog gear, the builder spared no detail. A Holley 4-barrel carb sits under an open-element air cleaner with reproduction decals. They even included the factory-style torque strap to keep that big block in check under load.

Mechanically, this car is smartly spec'd for street use. Instead of a fussy solid-lifter cam, this build features a hydraulic cam that makes it street-friendly and easy to live with. It runs strong on pump gas, fires up reliably, and pulls hard across the rev range - just like a big block Camaro should. Daily driver friendly? Absolutely. High-strung diva? Not at all.

The big block is backed by a stout 4-speed manual transmission with a Hurst shifter - nothing quite beats the raw, mechanical feel of an old-school gearbox. We recently upgraded the rear end with a rebuilt 12-bolt featuring fresh 3.55 gears and a new Eaton limited-slip differential, delivering great acceleration with comfortable cruising capability.

Underneath, the suspension, brakes, and supporting systems are either new or fully rebuilt. It's not over-restored underneath, but everything is solid, clean, and well-maintained. A -new dual exhaust gives the car that classic, throaty big-block soundtrack. The rolling stock? Vintage-correct Firestone F70-14 redline tires on Rallye wheels for that authentic late-'60s vibe.

Inside, the black vinyl bucket-seat interior has been restored, top to bottom. New seat foam and covers, restored dash, correct SS steering wheel, and new seat belts make it look and feel just right. A tasteful set of Stewart-Warner auxiliary gauges resides ahead of the Hurst shifter, and there's even a classic column-mounted SW tach to complete the look. It's a no-console setup - simple, focused, and great for someone who loves to drive.

If you're in the market for a classic that wants to be driven, this Camaro checks all the boxes. Big block power, 4-speed fun, head-turning looks, and quality craftsmanship without the over-restored trailer queen stigma. It's the kind of car you'll find yourself wanting to drive every weekend - and maybe even every day.

Come down to Gateway Classic Cars of Dallas and take a closer look at this 1968 Camaro SS396 tribute. Feel the torque, hear the growl, and see why this might be the choice seat in the house for anyone who believes driving is the heart of the hobby.

Don't just collect it - drive it.
