Description

The second-generation Corvette, the C2, was a huge step forward for Chevrolet. Lighter, faster, better. Immediately available with powerful V8, a body that had been wind tunnel tested for the first time, and despite using almost twice as much surface area of steel as the C1, still less weight. The C2 Sting Ray is considered by many to be the most beautiful Corvette of the entire series and this handsome 'Matching Numbers' Split Window is no exception. The C2 'Split Window' we are talking about here is one from the first year of production, 1963. This is the most popular version, with the split rear window and the grilles on the hood. A car that at the time was compared to models like the Mercedes-Benz 300SL and other exclusive sports cars. The 327 Cubic Inches measuring V8 produces 300 horsepower, which still allows the Corvette C2 Sting Ray to be described as a purebred sports car today. The C2 is characterized by double round taillights and headlights that flip open, both features that were typical of the Corvette until the C5. The interior makes you feel like you have entered the jukebox among cars, an unprecedented look. A beautiful showcase of chrome and aluminum gauges, knobs and levers. The steel center tunnel that houses the shift lever of the two-speed automatic transmission is slightly reminiscent of an airplane from that time. This Corvette is in very nice condition and has already been expertly restored once. As a result, the paint looks literally gorgeous and the chrome details also look very good. This impression continues in the interior where also only the conclusion can be drawn that the car is completely 'finished'. Upholstery, sky, the already mentioned instruments: it is get in and enjoy but in this time machine. With the car comes extensive documentation that goes back to about 1000 miles. The last six digits of the VIN number and the engine number match, which means that this V8 is the original one that was hoisted into the Chevrolet at the factory. All the other engine part numbers are also written down so there is no doubt about its originality. There is, almost as a matter of course for Corvettes in this class also a document from the NCRS, the "National Corvette Restorers Society," which is actually like a birth certificate: this stunning C2 was built on March 19, 1963 and the first owner picked it up at Blanck Chevrolet in Brownsburg, Indiana. Now, almost 60 years later, this very stylish Split Window is for sale almost 7,000 kilometers away at our place in Brummen.
