Description

When Citroën unveiled the DS in 1955, it seemed to come from another world. Flaminio Bertoni’s design was anything but traditional, and Citroën also took a completely different technical direction. Hydropneumatic suspension, self-leveling, power steering, and disc brakes: solutions that were certainly not commonplace at the time. The result was a car that not only looked extraordinary but also drove differently from virtually everything else on the road at the time. And that feeling is still very much present today. This 1974 DS20 was fully restored from the ground up, with a great deal of expertise, patience, and attention to detail. And that is precisely what you see in the final result. This is not a car where only the exterior has been made to look beautiful. The details, finish, and mechanics have also been thoroughly addressed. You can simply tell that the person who built this car knew exactly what he was doing. The color scheme is perhaps one of this DS’s strongest points. Gris Palladium, combined with Noir and the Rouge velour interior, creates a particularly well-thought-out combination. Chic, quintessentially French, and just striking enough. The red velour also adds that extra something to the interior. And we haven’t even mentioned the comfort yet. A DS with fabric upholstery is perhaps one of the most comfortable ways to drive a classic car. You sink slightly into the soft seats, the hydropneumatic suspension does the rest, and suddenly rough roads seem a lot less rough. On top of that, this particular car is equipped with a large folding roof. Roof open, comfortable seat, letting the DS glide smoothly ahead of you. It really doesn’t get much better than that. This Citroën looks exceptionally elegant and truly impresses with its details. The right look, a beautiful interior, meticulous restoration work, and a color combination that perfectly showcases the car’s lines. Is the DS the most beautiful car of all time? Of course, that’s for you to decide. But this particular example certainly makes a very strong case.
