Description

The DeTomaso Pantera is a striking blend of Italian design and American muscle, embodying the exotic Italian sports car spirit of the early 1970s.

Born from a collaboration between Argentine-Italian automaker Alejandro De Tomaso and Ford Motor Company, the Pantera (“Panther” in Italian) debuted in 1970 in Modena. The mid-engined supercar featured wedge-shaped styling by the hand of Tom Tjaarda at Italian design firm Ghia and a Ford 351 Cleveland V8 engine mated to a 5-speed ZF manual gearbox.

With its bold styling and formidable performance, the DeTomaso Pantera was an instant hit and in upgraded and revised form, stayed in production for more than 20 years.

This European delivery 1973 Pantera has had very few owners, it is believed just four since new. In the early 1980s the DeTomaso was upgraded to current Pantera GT5/GT5-S specification sporting revised bodywork with extended wheel arches, a deep front spoiler with integral driving lights and an eye catching “Delta” rear wing spoiler.

In 2007 the car was fully restored, this time upgrading with a newly build 427 cubic inch / 7 Litre engine from Pantera specialist P.I. Motorsport with 10.5 to 1 compression ratio, ported heads and an upgraded forged steel crankshaft giving an impressive output of 500+ HP.

The sight and sound of this 7 Litre DeTomaso Pantera is otherworldly: at idle, this is literally a beast breathing, and on the go, the raw and brute visceral power is instant and forceful, yet with a refined European feel to the handling.

In the words of P.I. Motorsports:

‘The Pantera in its day was untouchable in performance. It still is damn fast, even in stock form. However, for some owners, 300-400 horsepower simply doesn't cut it. Designed for street use and for club events. This is not a pure race engine. This is not a bracket racing motor that could not reasonably provide reliability, economy and lack of stress on your ZF. It will flat-out clean the clocks of the competition. Smooth operation, cool running and decent fuel economy will be yours. The results (on the dyno) showed that our engine developed 587 horsepower at 6,100 RPM and 557 foot pounds of torque at 5,100 RPM. Would this amount of horsepower and torque satisfy you?’

The DeTomaso will easily do 0-100km/h in 5 sec, most probably less, but if you know you are driving the fastest classic car around with 500HP+ available, it is hardly relevant.

The interior is in beautiful condition, entirely covered in black leather. The seats are to GTS specification and give great support while the dashboard is to “standard” Pantera specification

The Pantera has done a recorded 57.914km from new (of which 10.000km are with the new 7 Litre engine) and comes with interesting period documentation including brochures, folders, price list, parts catalogue and photos relating to previous ownership. The original engine to this car (in need of rebuild) also follows the car.

Registered with historic number plate on current Danish (EU) registration documents it is ready to be enjoyed on the road.
