French grandeur at its best! This is a very special Delahaye! Namely a Delahaye 235 convertible by Antem. The Delahaye 235 was the successor to the 135 series that was built from 1935 to early 1954. The 235 series has the famous and acclaimed 3500cc six cylinder engine with three carburettors which delivered 152 hp and ensured a top speed of no less than 180 km per hour. This was crazy for the time and seen by many as: "The ultimate Grand touring" model of Delahaye. Only 85 copies were made of the 235 series in different body shapes such as: Coupe, roadster, coach and convertible. A number of top names of that time in terms of body builders / designers were commissioned to design a car such as: Letourneur & Merchant, Figoni & Falaschi, Saoutchik, Motto, Chapron and Antem! Bodyworker Antem ultimately made/supplied 14 of the 85, of which 1 and the only convertible from the entire series! And that concerns our car with chassis number 818022. A world-class design, unique in many ways, a car in which the styling, lines only really come into its own when you see the car in person. There are so many beautiful design elements on this car, that you can speak of true art! It is not for nothing that chassis number 818022 served as the official “Paris Motor Show Car” in Grand Palais 1952! On November 6, 1952, the car was first registered (6772 BN 75) in the name of the first owner in Paris who kept the car until early 1957. In March 1957 the car was sold to second owner (also Parisian) Mr. . Victor Franssen is a Belgian actor known for various international films. At the beginning of the summer of 1963, June 21 to be precise, the car changed hands while retaining the original French license plate/registration number. The new owner was Mr. Lucienne Sergent, a lawyer. Many years later, the car has become part of the well-known collection of Mr. Philippe Charbonneaux in Riems, where the car has been in a museum. In 1985 the car was registered to the son of Mr. Charbonneaux and become part of his daughter's collection. Up to this time, the car has been well-maintained and basically remained in original condition with the exception of the paintwork. A beautiful and special detail is the steering wheel, which was specially made for this car in honor of the “Paris Motor Show”! A few years ago 2012-2014, the car was completely restored and technically overhauled by a renowned and well-known French specialist on behalf of the last owner. This is a complete restoration in which no expense has been spared and the restoration has been carried out with an eye for detail and originality. This was a "Bare-Metal" restoration, everything has been taken care of, wiring harness, instruments, newly painted in the original color, interior completely new and of course also in the original color scheme, summer hood and so on. Furthermore, technically completely overhauled, so engine, suspension, brakes and the "Cotal" gearbox. Driving this car with "a lot of" power is therefore a real party. The entire restoration is carefully documented through many photos and all invoices. A car you could write a book about….
