This is rarely seen, especially in this condition. The Auto Union 1000SP Coupé was at the time often regarded as a small version of the Ford Thunderbird. Not surprising if you compare both models. The DKW 1000SP Coupé was sold 5.004 times and the Roadster only 1.640 times. Despite its modest size, Auto Union marketed the 1000S as a true luxury product. Exactly as its successor Audi still does today. The Auto Union 1000SP was also the last model of Auto Union that was powered by a 3-cylinder two-stroke engine. All models after that were equipped with a 4-stroke. This example was delivered new to a German who was about to emigrate to Cape Town. He intended to start a garage there. That garage was a success and later even an official Audi dealer. The car stood in a showroom for over 20 years. In 1985 the son of the owner decided to bring the car back to life and the technique was made to run again. Otherwise the car needed nothing and is used purely as a hobby. In 2020 the car came to Germany. The body is for purely cosmetic reasons once thinly repainted in its original color, but is otherwise in completely original condition. The sheet metal is then also beautifully thin and the fits are correct. The paint was very well painted at the time and still looks beautiful. The chromed bumpers look like new and were also recently completely re-chromed. In addition, there are four new tires mounted in the original sizes. The interior is completely original and has a nice patina. Thanks to the fact that the car has stood so long in a warm dry garage, the Bakelite steering wheel and the Bakelite gear knob are still in excellent condition. The seats are completely original and have developed a very nice patina. The trunk and rubber carpets have been redone. In addition, there is an original Becker radio with five buttons. The car has had an easy life and the two-stroke engine runs perfectly. As you might expect, the car has been perfectly maintained in South Africa with only original parts. In Germany, the car has received an extensive service last year. This DKW is technically in perfect condition and can be used immediately. The brakes are easy to use and the suspension is still very good. The car will be delivered with invoices of the work that has been done recently in Germany by specialists and is ready to go for a nice tour with this beautiful running two stroke engine. Not only optically but also technically a beautiful DKW 1000SP Coupé.
