The DeLorean DMC-12 is the only model car made by DeLorean between 1981 and 1982.
The DMC-12 was designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro of Ital Design and was further developed by Colin Chapman of Lotus. This was not the only vehicle that DeLorean developed. DMC-12 was first an internal code for the car, where the letters DMC stand for De Lorean Motor Company and the figure 12 would be derived from a sale price of $ 12,000. It was fitted with hinged doors, and had a 2.8-liter V6 PRV engine, mounted in front of the rear axle, which delivered 132 hp at 5500 rpm. This power was transferred to the rear wheels by means of a five-speed manual gearbox, or a three-speed automatic gearbox.
