Description

The Donkervoort S8, or Super Eight, is the second model developed by Donkervoort after its founding in 1978. The model stays true to the brand’s original philosophy: a minimalist, lightweight sports car with an emphasis on agility and driving performance. In the early 1980s, Donkervoort positioned itself in a small, specialized segment where Dutch handcrafted craftsmanship and British inspiration came together in a distinctly lightweight design.

The 1984 Donkervoort S8 belongs to the first generation of this model. Chassis number JD0082 makes this example one of the earliest production cars in the S8 series. The car was originally delivered in the Netherlands and has a history of ownership spanning several decades. The first Dutch owner kept the Donkervoort until 2021—a period of 37 years—after which it had one more owner. Together, these two previous owners drove 64,659 kilometers in the car.

Technically, the Donkervoort S8 is an exceptionally lightweight sports car. Its low weight and the use of a 2-liter Ford engine form the basis of the concept. Thanks to this combination, the S8 accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.0 seconds and reaches a top speed of 190 km/h, conditions permitting. Among Dutch sports cars from that period, the Donkervoort S8 occupies a distinctive place as a car with a highly focused, functional character.

This Donkervoort S8 is equipped with black fabric upholstery, a leather Donkervoort steering wheel, and a dashboard finished in black leather. The gauges also feature black trim. The doors, soft top, and leather cover are all black and in good condition. These elements give the car a cohesive and sporty appearance.

The car rides on 14-inch Donkervoort alloy wheels with 195/60-R14 tires. It was later fitted with cycle wings—the rounded front fenders that pivot with the front wheels. This detail gives the car a later and more modern look within the model’s design language. For purists, the long original front fenders are available upon request. The car also comes with an original owner’s manual prepared in 1981 for the S7 and S8, including the wiring harness diagram. The document was typed on a typewriter and features hand-drawn illustrations, making it a unique collector’s item.

No further history is available for the car. Aside from the included original owner’s manual, no additional maintenance, restoration, or user documents are available.

The 1984 Donkervoort S8 is an early example of the second model that Donkervoort developed after 1978. With chassis number JD0082, a 2-liter Ford engine, a weight of 580 kilograms, and a documented usage history, this is an original Dutch classic with additional documentation and accompanying original parts. To get a good idea of the lot, we recommend attending the viewing day.
