1916 Dort Tourer Model 5
Vin Number: 1995
Registration Number: SV6830
A nice little tourer coming to us from an estate sale. Dort Cars of Flint Michigan built some 106,000 units prior to closing down. The car was imported to the UK in 1990 & fully restored upon arrival. It has seen occasional family use & also done a few weddings for friends etc where it is always well received.
The model 5 uses the bullet proof & reliable Lycoming L Head 4 cylinder 2.7 litre engine mated to a 3 speed crash gear box. The engine is in excellent condition starting readily on the starting handle & running sweetly & quietly. Clearly it has been rebuilt sometime in the not too distant past having fresh paint & a tidy appearance.
The body is the 3 door tourer version with comfortable bench type seats to the front & rear. A large hood easily unfurls providing cover during poor weather.
We easily started the car after quite a long lay up & took it for a few miles drive to put fresh fuel in it & generally give it a good run. The car drives very well at 35 to 40MPH with an easy 3 speed crash gear box & a strong reliable engine. Wooden artillery wheels are fitted to the 4 corners along with a single spare rim to the rear.
Slightly bigger then UK offerings from the likes of Austin & Morris, this Dort is both comfortable & practical.
