MODEL HISTORY & PRODUCTION
Launched at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 1985, the Ferrari 328 GTB (coupé) and GTS (Spider, targa-top) replaced the 308 GTB and GTS models. The 328 designation represented the larger displacement 3.2 litre (3,185cc) engine with 8 cylinders.

The 328 had a similar appearance to the out-going 308, which never received any major styling changes throughout its eight-year production. There were subtle modifications to the Pininfarina designed, Scaglietti hand-built bodies to improve aerodynamics, principally to the nose and tail sections giving the wedge-shaped profile a softer look. More noticeable improvements were made to the interior which had a complete overhaul, including new back-lit orange on black dashboard gauges which were taken over from the 1984 GTO, and viewed through the anatomical Momo (Morreti-Monza) steering wheel.

The transversely mounted Tipo V8 engine produced 270 hp (201 kW) and 231 lb ft (313 Nm) of torque, and was capable of propelling the 328 to a top speed is 166 mph (267 km/h) and sprinting to 60 mph (97 km/h) in a mere 5.5 seconds. The 328 was the final evolution of the transverse mid-mounted V8 Ferraris, and was regarded as one of the most reliable and functional of that era, with a very durable road record.

There was only 542 RHD variants exported to the UK, out of a total of 7,412 models produced during the four year production run, where the GTS outnumbered GTB versions by five to one. In the autumn of 1989, the 328 GTB/GTS was replaced by the 3.4 litre 348 GTB/GTS.
