Description

It’s one of the most evocative model names in automotive history: Testarossa! Just say it out loud a few times, with the emphasis on “ros,” and you’ll instantly feel like an Italian. Literally translated, it means “Red Head,” a reference to the red cylinder heads of the mighty V12. The Testarossa of the 1980s was named after legendary predecessors such as the 250 Testa Rossa and 500 TR. As a child of the ’80s, this Ferrari has everything a car enthusiast of that era dreamed of: pop-up headlights, massive air intakes, and black grilles over the taillights. The number of posters that hung above beds and in offices must have been countless.Behind the wheel, the average forty-something immediately gets a flashback to the late ’80s, when he or she played the game Out Run, one of the first and most famous racing games ever, in which the Testarossa played the leading role. Not from games but from television? Then you undoubtedly know the Testarossa from Miami Vice. As you can see: the Testarossa is an icon of its time, a car that is almost as emblematic of the era as the cassette tape, test pattern, and the View-Master.The Testarossa you see here is a highly sought-after 'Monodado,' meaning the Testarossa is equipped with wheels featuring a central wheel nut. Later, the model received 'standard' wheels mounted with five bolts. The Rosso Corsa Ferrari was delivered to its first owner in early 1987 through the dealer in Houston, Texas. The Testarossa did not have a hard life after that; in total, only 33,836 miles (about 54,000 kilometers) were driven in the car. The car was always properly serviced at an official dealer. The car recently underwent a complete service and had its timing belt replaced. Typically, this is a car that was driven only in good weather and stored warm and dry indoors between those rare sunny drives. If you walk around this mid-engine two-seater, you’ll find practically no spot that isn’t perfect. A stunning car. Thanks to that carefree life, the car’s condition can be described as magnificent. The paintwork is very beautiful and, as far as we can tell, largely original. There are hardly any imperfections to be found. The 'monodado' wheels are also beautiful, without any damage, and include tires in the correct size. The interior of the Testarossa is just as beautiful, featuring gorgeous natural-colored leather. The upholstery, just like the rest of the interior, is entirely original and in formidable condition. No damage, no signs of drying out from the hot American sun—everything is simply stunning. The instrument panel, the center console, the beautiful steering wheel, and all the other gorgeous ’80s details surrounding you: this Ferrari is exceptionally beautiful and original. The sleek, understated design of the dashboard, the orange-red gauges found not only in front of you but also in the center console, and of course the black 'shift knob' that disappears via a long steel shift rod into the typical Ferrari shift pattern. Pure 1980s, yet in terms of condition, not a single detail suggests that it is thirty-five years old. This Testarossa is a fantastic example for enthusiasts of originality and something special—which this 'Testa' certainly is, thanks to its unique wheels. The nearly two-meter-wide Ferrari (1.97 meters to be exact) comes with the original manuals and all necessary documentation.
