A landmark collaboration between Fiat and Ferrari, the Fiat Dino was engineered primarily to help Ferrari meet the FIA's Formula 2 racing homologation rules, which mandated that racing engines must be derived from a production car with at least 500 units built annually.
Powered by a 2.0-litre, all-aluminium, DOHC 65-degree V6 engine (shared with the Ferrari Dino 206GT) producing 160bhp, it features a 5-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential.
This left-hand drive example was first registered in France in April 1968 and imported to the UK in 2013 by its previous owner, who had owned it since the mid-2000s. Documentation confirms a top-end rebuild was carried out in France in 2011 at a cost of 2,500 euros, with photos suggesting it has covered around 5,000 km since then.
During its early years in the UK, it spent time at a Dino specialist and benefited from nearly £8,000 worth of mechanical and maintenance work, including a partial floor-pan restoration and carburettor rebuild in 2015. The car is supplied with a folder of invoices, French and UK registration documents, and a CD-ROM of a workshop manual. The most recent service was in 2017.
Purchased by our vendor from us in May 2019, it has been serviced since but remains little used and will require some recommissioning before regular road use.
We encourage your inspection at our CarFest Sale.
