Description

Ford Escort RS2000 MK1 for sale

The Ford RS2000, introduced in 1974, stands as an iconic symbol of Ford's commitment to performance and innovation. Born during an era when rally racing was gaining immense popularity, the RS2000 was specifically designed to meet the stringent homologation requirements of Group 1 rally racing.

Underneath its sleek and compact exterior, the RS2000 housed a potent 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, delivering a spirited driving experience. The powerplant, coupled with rear-wheel drive, provided an engaging and responsive ride, making it a favorite among enthusiasts. The RS2000's rallying success was cemented by its participation in various competitions, showcasing its prowess on diverse terrains.

Visually, the 1974 RS2000 featured distinctive rally-inspired styling, including flared wheel arches and aerodynamic enhancements. Inside, the cockpit reflected a no-nonsense approach to performance, with purposeful instrumentation and supportive seats to cater to the demands of competitive driving.

The RS2000's significance extends beyond its initial release; it laid the foundation for future performance-oriented models from Ford. Its influence is still evident in the brand's lineup today, as Ford continues to produce high-performance vehicles that carry the legacy of the RS2000's racing pedigree.

Exterior: When this car comes driving down the road, people are looking, even the ones not interested in vintage rally cars. I am not sure if it is the colour or the sound. The car has superb paintwork for a rally car. Very straight and an excellent shine. All panels fit perfectly on the car. The blue sections are painted. The body is super solid, and there is absolutely no rust on this Ford RS2000. Riding on a set of Minilite wheels fitted with proper winter tyres (without studs). I can imagine the “Daytona Yellow” with blue striping was the natural choice if you were from Sweden. The original wipers for the headlights are still intact, and there are enough extra lights up front to make sure you see the twisting road far ahead. Also, there are even two extra headlights in the trunk.

Interior: The black interior is in top condition. The Ford RS200 cars were fitted with a black headliner, and this car comes prepared for rally.

Otherwise, the interior is superbly clean, and all instruments are working. Note the original RS steering wheel presenting in the car.

Engine and mechanics: When you open the hood, you can see some of the things that separate the Ford RS2000 from the normal Ford Escort, such as the strengthening plates around the inner wings and the strut tops as well as the 2l Pinto engine with double Weber carburetors. The RS manifold looks beautiful under the hood and the sound from the back is just as beautiful. Underneath the original aluminum sump. The original engine block from 1974 was replaced with an identical unit from 1976 in the year 2000.

History: This Ford Escort RS2000 MK1 was sold new in Sweden on the third of October in 1974, however the car is considered year model 1975 in the papers. It has been in the present ownership for the last 10 years. The RS2000 had an extensive restoration done in the year 2000. In 2013, it received a FIVA identity card.

The Ford Escort RS has participated in the following events.

· Rallye Monte-Carlo Historique 2014 starting from Stockholm

· Rallye Monte-Carlo Historique 2015 starting from Copenhagen
