The Ford Escort XR3i finds its roots in the battle of the hot-hatches, Ford trying to take the fight to VW’s mighty new Golf GTi. The MKIV being one last swing before the completely new fifth generation. Initially featuring a tuned version of the 1.6-litre CVH engine fitted with a twin-choke Weber carburettor, uprated suspension and numerous cosmetic alterations. It lacked a 5-speed transmission and fuel-injection. Fuel-injection finally arrived in October 1982 creating the XR3i.
The Car:
Presented here in its fabulous Radiant Red paint over Grey Zolda fabric interior this XR3i is in superb condition. Having covered just 12,000 miles since 2011, the car underwent a thorough recommissioning three years ago. Receiving new springs, dampers, disks, pad, cambelt, water pump, radiator, thermostat, exhaust, CV joint and drive shaft oil seals. The mechanics of the car as a result are in exceptional condition with a driving experience that backs up the work undertaken. To complement this the bodywork and interior condition matches the mechanical condition with hardly any imperfections to be found.
The car is supplied with a current MOT until October 2025, so plenty of time to enjoy some summer motoring.
