Description

This lot will be auctioned via Iconic Auctioneers, The Classic Sale at Supercar Fest 2026 on Saturday, May 16th, at Sywell Aerodrome, Sywell, Northampton, NN6 0BN.

Introduced in 1992, the Escort RS Cosworth was a homologation special based on the fifth-generation Ford Escort. Its sole purpose was to incorporate parts intended for Ford's Group A rally cars, ensuring success in the World Rally Championship. It is a true Group A rally car for the road.

Presented in desirable Radiant Red with a black leather Recaro interior, this vehicle was first registered in the UK on August 12, 1993, with a build date of November 1992. It is one of the early 2,500 homologation cars.

The car is powered by the 2.0-litre YBT 'big turbo' Cosworth engine, remaining in standard specification and producing 227 bhp. It is paired with a 5-speed MT75 gearbox.

It shows 70,761 miles on the odometer at the time of cataloguing. The MOT is valid until March 2027 with no advisories. The vehicle has had four years of current ownership and has had only two previous registered keepers.

The car is supplied with a detailed history file, including the original Bill of Sale to the first owner, Mr. M. Buller, dated August 4, 1993. The file also contains original RS brochures, showroom documentation, every MOT certificate from 1997 onwards, extensive service invoices, spare keys, and Sigma alarm documentation.

During current ownership, the vehicle has been sympathetically recommissioned and refreshed. Work included repairs to the sill, sunroof, and rear window surrounds, refurbishment of the engine bay and exhaust, replacement of spoiler gaskets, and attention to localized corrosion, all while retaining an honest and un-restored character.

Major maintenance was completed in February 2023, including cambelt, tensioners, and pulleys replacement, a new fuel tank and fuel pump, cooling and power steering pipes, and a new speedo cable. It also received a set of period-correct Pirelli P700-Z tyres from Longstone Tyres and a rare new original Ford front lower splitter.

Additional recent expenditure includes cylinder head refacing and head gasket replacement by JAM Sport in August 2023, refurbishment of the RDS2007 stereo by Retro Car Audio, servicing in 2024 and 2025, new discs and pads, replacement ABS sensors, and a crankshaft oil seal.

The vehicle is accompanied by a red Ford indoor car cover from the original owner, refurbishment photographs, spare parts, two main keys with working torch inserts, a spare key, and two alarm fobs.
