Description

Check out this 1965 Ford Mustang Convertible! It's a real beauty, and it's got a story to tell. Back in the early 1960s, there was a gap in the American car market. Detroit wasn't coming out with any cool compact cars. But then, on April 17, 1964, Ford changed everything with the Mustang at the New York World's Fair. Lee Iacocca had this idea for a sporty car for young people, with a long hood, short deck, and a reasonable price. And guess what? That idea turned into one of the most successful Ford cars ever! It even started a whole new genre of muscle cars called "Pony Cars." The 1965 Mustang had just a few changes from the 1964-1/2 models. The biggest change was that they switched from a generator to an alternator, and the engine was bigger, at 200 cubic inches instead of 170. In its second year of production, the Ford Mustang, which had already achieved remarkable success, continued to be a massive hit. By 1966, Ford had produced nearly 600,000 Mustangs, and they were determined to maintain the success of their iconic vehicle. Consequently, the 1966 Mustang remained largely unchanged from its predecessor, the '65 version. In fact, Ford's advertising campaign for the '66 Mustang emphasized that it had not changed much, assuring Mustang lovers that their favorite car had not undergone significant alterations. The most noticeable improvement in the 1966 Mustang was the introduction of a newly redesigned grille. This change marked a departure from the honeycomb style of the '65 grille, replacing it with a horizontal bar, floating Mustang look. The interiors were also updated slightly, with the 1966 Mustang receiving a brand new 5-pot instrument cluster that gave it a more race car-like appearance and feel. Despite these minor stylistic changes, the Mustang continued to be a resounding success for the Ford Motor Company. It commanded a 7.1% market share for overall US automobile sales, and by the end of 1966, over 1.25 million Mustangs were on the roads. Under the hood on this '66 Mustang is a 200 cubic inch inline 6 cylinder engine fed by a single barrel carburetor that together were said to have created 120 horsepower when new. The 200 straight 6 is backed by a C4 automatic transmission making this 1966 Mustang Convertible an easy car for anybody to drive and enjoy. Additionally, this classic Ford Mustang comes equipped with power steering further making it an easy and enjoyable car for everybody to take on a summer afternoon cruise or even just a spin around the block. Whether you're squeezing into a tight parking space at the local car show or making a lane change, you'll be far less stressed since this Mustang has a chrome driver's side mirror. Riding on a set of radial tires mounted on steel wheels and accented with deluxe wheel covers, this '66 Mustang Convertible has a great look and even better ride cruising down the road. The black vinyl convertible top is in fantastic condition and when in the down position, tucks neatly below a matching convertible boot cover. The body of this Mustang has been recently refinished in Poppy Red paint that completes the exterior appearance of this superb summer cruiser. The interior of this 1966 Ford Mustang Convertible looks great! The front bucket seats are separated by a sporty center console and the front buckets and rear bench seats have all been re-covered in black upholstery. The black padded dash, black upholstered door panels and sun visors, steering wheel, and brand new black carpeting all appear to be in great shape and keep the interior of this 1966 Mustang looking bone stock. The five-pot instrument cluster comes outfitted with a 140 MPH speedometer, temperature gauge, oil pressure gauge, amp gauge, and fuel gauge so that you can easily keep track of the car's performance. The dash is finished off with a locking glovebox and an upgraded Kenwood AM/FM/CD entertainment system so that you can listen to all of your tunes while out on a nice summer day. Whether you're buying your very first classic car or you're looking to add another great driver to your stable of classic cars, this 1966 Ford Mustang Convertible would make an excellent choice.
