Description

What a beautiful day it must have been in 1968. When the first owner bought his new Jaguar E-Type Series 1 Fixed Head Coupé at the local Jaguar dealer in New York. He ordered a Jaguar E-Type Series 1 4.2 liter in the timelessly beautiful Opalescent Maroon with a Beige interior. Coincidentally, the colors the car still wears today. The car is still in beautiful condition. Not surprising when looking at the photo series taken of the restoration. The bodywork was reduced to bare metal and repaired where necessary before being painted in its original color. The interior has been completely reupholstered with great attention to detail and originality. The work was also very well done, the result is therefore still very nice. The bodywork looks beautiful with only some light traces of use. The fits are correct and both the wire wheels and the chrome trim look great. The paint is also in very good condition with also only some very light wear. At the rear, the centrally mounted dual exhaust immediately catches the eye. That the car was always stored inside after the restoration is immediately noticeable after opening the door. The leather is still beautifully supple and the carpets are also in very good condition. This car has been overtly cherished. The instruments and controls all look very well cared for and all function as they should. How wonderful cars’s were in all their simplicity in the ’60s.The technology is still top fit. The overhaul was done as thoroughly as the restoration work during the restoration. The engine has been taken apart down to the last screw and fitted with many new parts, new gaskets and new bearings. It is immediately noticeable while driving. The 4.2-liter six-in-line produces 265 horsepower but had a whack more torque than its little brother, the 3.8. As a result, the car is wonderfully relaxed to drive. The car reaches a top speed of 246 kilometers per hour and can cover the standard 0-100 sprint in 7 seconds. Not so surprising considering its very low weight of 1,300 kilograms by today's standards. The 4.2 not only had an engine with more torque but also received better seats, a nicer dashboard, better brakes and a transmission with syncro’s on all four gears. The transmission shifts precisely and the gears fit the E-type's sporty disposition well. The advantage of such’a hugely rigorous overhaul is that with the materials that are available today, you not only get back a better running engine but also one that can last a lot longer because the quality of all the parts used has improved by leaps and bounds over the last few decades. The car comes with Jaguar Heritage Certificate and an extensive photo reportage of the work carried out. In short, not only a picture to see but also a pleasure to drive.
