Description

Some sports cars made an impression once. Others continue to do so. The E-Type belongs to that rare class that transcends nostalgia.

This particular Series 2 OTS was built on New Year’s Eve, 1968, and delivered to British Leyland in New York on February 11, 1969. Originally finished in Sable with a Cinnamon interior and black soft top, it still retains its original chassis number 1R8118 and matching engine number 7R 1909-9 — fully documented with the accompanying Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate.

In 1998, the car was imported to the Netherlands and placed in a private collection, where it remained as a static museum piece for many years. In 2017, a comprehensive technical and cosmetic restoration began — and it was nothing short of remarkable. Everything that needed attention received it — and more.

The engine was fully disassembled, rebuilt, and overhauled by a Jaguar specialist. The cylinder head was converted to run on unleaded fuel. The gearbox was professionally rebuilt, the drivetrain renewed and optimized, and the intake system, carburetors, ignition, and cooling were all fully addressed. Where possible, original parts were preserved; where desirable, technical improvements were made — including a stainless-steel exhaust, Spax shock absorbers, modern radiator with electric fans, and an electronic Revoltec fan controller.

The bodywork received equal attention. Around 2000, the car was repainted in the iconic Primrose Yellow. Recently, paint and panels were partially corrected again. The soft top was reupholstered in high-quality mohair, including a matching top cover.

The interior features elegant black leather. Seats were re-padded and re-trimmed, the dashboard was fully disassembled, cleaned, and rebuilt using original or new components. The radio was replaced with a period-correct unit, and even the luggage area was retrimmed.

Electrics were fully rewired, tested, and made functional. All lighting, inside and out, was either replaced or restored, including a set of new H4 headlights. The battery, cables, and wiper motor were all refurbished or renewed.

As a finishing touch, this E-Type received several tasteful upgrades: wide chrome wire wheels with Cooper whitewall tires, chrome spinners, a chrome luggage rack, and even an electric antenna — controlled from a button on the dash.

The restoration is thoroughly documented with a photo album and a thick stack of invoices and parts lists. Virtually every wear-and-tear item has been restored or replaced. Everything fits. Everything works. Everything shines.

This E-Type is not just road-ready — it’s ready for its next chapter. Whether that’s a concours lawn, a coastal road in the sun, or a discerning collector’s garage — it will get there with flair, finesse, and that irresistible touch of British refinement.

Jaguar E-Type – Domesticated. Not declawed.
