Description

The legendary Sir Malcolm Sawyer was responsible for the Jaguar E-Type presented in 1961 and had created one of the most beautiful, impressive and successful sports cars in the history of the automobile. After the Series 1, 1.5 and 2 , which were exclusively available with in-line six-cylinder engines, Jaguar presented the Series 3 at the end of 1970 with the brilliantly designed 5.3 litre V12 engine with 4 carburettors, which had its origins in racing. The E-Type featured disc brakes all round (weight-optimised at the rear differential), as well as double wishbones at the front axle and lower wishbones at the rear axle.
The E-Type Convertible on offer in detail
The convertible offered here was first taken over by the Scuderia Sportiva Colonia in 2012 and partially restored over the years: this E-Type was repainted; the interior was lined with new black leather; a new Moto Lita wooden steering wheel was fitted; the chassis was overhauled; the engine was inspected and resealed, improved "performance air filters" and a sports exhaust system were installed. The highlight is certainly the Cosworth 5-speed gearbox, which was also newly installed at the time. With this gearbox, the power delivery and the overall performance of the V12 is even better. The pulling power is breathtaking. Cosworth gearboxes have also been tested by Jaguar several times in racing and used in endurance races.
In addition, the shapely "headlamp covers" of the first series of the Jaguar E-Type were installed in the course of the bodywork work. The second and third series of E-Types had to do without the headlamp covers due to American safety regulations. As a result, the front headlights stood somewhat unmotivated "in the wind". We have rectified this stylistic inconsistency with this original version. The beautiful wire-spoke rims complete the picture. Not included in the pictures is the replacement of the soft top. The customer requested a red soft top with matching tarpaulin. As a special treat, the original factory hardtop painted in the colour of the car is also available.
The history of this Jaguar is almost completely traceable. First delivery New York/USA in August 1971. According to production records it is the 27th model of the 3rd series. In the 80s this E-Type came into the hands of the M. family from Pennsylvania. From father to son, who took it to England in 2009. From him we acquired the vehicle. The engine is "matching" the delivery colour was racing green, the M. family repainted it already in the 80s in silver metallic.
Currently we have the following vehicle documentation at our disposal. Original English vehicle registration certificate "UK Registration Certificate", Jaguar Heritage Certifacte (production report) and a value appraisal from 2021, which certifies the grade 1- for this feline predator.
It will be difficult to find a comparable noble and good looking V12 of the 3rd series on the market.
The last owner did not really "warm up" to this exceptional Jaguar and so we bought this dream car back after only 300 km driven by him. This vehicle can be viewed in Cologne from the beginning of February 2023.
