Description

This lot will be auctioned via Iconic Auctioneers, The Classic Sale at the NEC Classic Motor Show 2025 on Sunday the 9th of November, NEC, Birmingham, B40 1NT.
Built as a 4.2-litre Series 1 XJ6 in 1970, diverted to Jaguar’s Experimental Department and converted with a 5.3-litre V12, four Stromberg carburettors and a 4-speed manual gearbox with overdrive
Finished in Jaguar Dark Blue with light grey leather trim, retaining steel wheels, chromed bumpers, bonnet mascot, thin-rimmed steering wheel, wood dash inlay and a 160mph speedometer
Features include modified inner wings, aluminium trunking for wiring and deletion of the rear bench to accommodate test equipment
Believed to be the prototype for a Series I XJ12 Manual that never reached production and registered right-hand drive with chassis number and badging for a 4.2 XJ6
Off the road since 1982 following its last MOT in 1981 at 59,617 miles with evidence of the engine running in 2013 although cylinder head work is required. Now in need of a full restoration with corrosion to bodywork and worn trim
Supplied with a Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust Certificate, V5C on its original registration EDU 102L and correspondence from Jaguar confirming its Experimental Department provenance

The Winchester Collection
A number of Jaguars and Daimlers with interesting provenance, including 2 Chassis #1 Daimler Double Six Vanden Plas Saloons,  Series I and Series 2, two experimental cars, including an XJ Series I and potentially the earliest surviving XJ-S as well as a pair of donor cars, all offered without reserve. Inspection of these cars is invited, they have formed part of a stalled collection, and as such are offered as is, in need of full restoration but in many cases will prove difficult to resist given their interesting histories.
