The Jaguar XK, in all versions, has been a much-loved British classic car for decades. Nevertheless, the XK 140 stands out a bit here again, and especially the Drop Head Coupe version. According to many enthusiasts, it has the right shape and proportions and its uses are optimal. This is due, for example, to the extensive storage options in the trunk and behind the front seats and, a beautifully padded soft top that opens and closes quickly. In addition, the 140 still has the beautiful curving lines that are quite a bit tighter in its successor, the 150. The classic lines and the two-piece windshield of the 140 is generally more appealing.Through a relation of ours we recently came across this Jaguar XK 140 3.4 SE Drop Head Coupe. Extensively restored by a Jaguar specialist in Berlin, Germany, the car had been staying in a doctor's heated garage since 2009. Regularly, the surroundings were explored and thus the car was kept moving well. Maintenance also left nothing to be desired. But free time all the more, and so after enjoying it for 15 years, the XK came up for sale. After looking at the car thoroughly and determining that it was fine, one thing was still missing and that was whether the car would have matching. According to the owner it did, but could not say for sure. Inquiries in England and now provided with the ordered Heritage Certificate, we learned that the numbers are correct and all the technology is still as the car left the factory at the time. With this important point we are of course again very happy.The beautiful dark blue color, called Pacific Blue, pa st perfectly with the cognac-colored leather interior and the, typical of the XK140, many walnut wood on the dashboard and door panels. How English / classic do we want it? On the outside, the perfect fits of the sheet metal stand out and the abundant beautiful chrome. The soft top is finished in luxurious, blue mohair and the hood cover is even in the same color leather as the interior. It cost a few pennies, but then you really have something beautiful.The performance, especially in this SE version, is really to write a long letter home about. The 210 hp. and ample engine torque over a wide area, provides driving pleasure in optima forma. The delightful 4-speed gearbox with overdrive responds precisely and at any time. But at some point we do have to brake again, and even then this XK is at home with optional front disc brakes and four-piston calipers.The XK 140 is really a car you can use for anything. A nice drive on a day off, as well as very long vacation trips, a nice organized tour or a rally; all these are certainly among the possibilities. The reliability is really high, and should there be work to do: parts are widely available and good (classic) Jaguar specialists can be found in many countries.
