Description

The 1958 Jaguar XK150S OTS (Open Two Seater) Roadster was the pinnacle of Jaguar’s XK series, delivering enhanced performance and refinement over its predecessors. Introduced in 1957, the XK150 modernized the classic XK formula with a wider body, improved aerodynamics, and the addition of Girling disc brakes on all four wheels—a groundbreaking feature for a production car of the period.

The "S" variant such as this Jaguar on offer, was launched in 1958 and was the most powerful version yet, featuring a 3.4L DOHC inline-six with triple SU carburetors, producing 250 hp—a significant increase over the standard XK150.

With 0-100km/h negotiated in around 7.3 seconds and a top speed of 219km/h, the XK150S was not just a capable grand tourer, it was also a serious British sports car. The superior engine power paired with a 4-speed manual gearbox with overdrive gives a smooth yet engaging drive that never fails to impress, even by modern standards.

This gleaming XK150 S was sold new in New York on the 12th of August 1958. Naturally in left hand drive configuration.

Early history is to be researched further, a copy of the 1977 US Certificate of Title follows the car. The XK150 S retains its original chassis and engine number confirmed by the accompanying Jaguar Factory Record Certificate.

In 1990 the XK150 S was sold to Europe as a running car, however in need of tender, love and care. Interestingly, the owner of the car prior to restoration, is also the current owner. Upon completion of its 3 year nut and bolt restoration in 2018, it did not take long for him to decide to buy it back when it was offered to him. Seeing the car in the flesh, one can understand why he wanted the car back.

The interior is faultless and appears as new. The leather seats have barely been broken in, and the leather feels rich and subtle. The carpets are spotless and overall the interior is a welcoming and luxurious space to find yourself in, exactly as it would have been when new.

The engine starts on the button and sets into a gentle idle once warm. Don’t let it fool you; the power is immediately available when you pres the accelerator. And with that, the sudden grunt of the exhaust gives you a further hint that this is an XK150 S with 250bhp on tap and not an ‘ordinary’ XK150.

The engine was restored by well respected VSE Engineering in the UK and has behaved faultless.

As part of a service in 2021, new brake calipers and brake pads all-round were fitted together with a new battery. Invoices for recent work together with several invoices from the restoration including the engine build comes with the car.

The XK150 S has benefitted from very little, but regular use over the last years and has always been well maintained.
