Description

The Jaguar XK 120 SE was introduced in 1948 as the successor to a brand known primarily for its prewar luxury cars. With the XK 120, Jaguar established itself as a leading sports car manufacturer. The "120" designation referred to a top speed of 120 miles per hour (193 km/h), which was exceptional for its time. Upon its introduction, the XK 120 stood out in its class for its performance and engineering.

Production continued until 1954, offering coupe, convertible, and later fixed-head versions. During this period, it became one of the most famous British sports cars. Its streamlined body, modern six-cylinder engine, and versatility made the XK 120 an important export model for Jaguar. The SE version, meaning "Special Equipment," featured sportier specifications.

The 1954 Jaguar XK 120 SE marks the end of the model series. It belongs to the final production years of the XK120, a model that laid the foundation for the later XK150 and indirectly for the Jaguar E-Type. By then, the XK engine family was renowned for its smoothness, engineering, and versatility in both road and racing applications.

The XK 120 SE is equipped with a 3.4-liter inline-six engine with twin SU carburetors, producing 120 kW (160 hp). The SE version offers additional power and sportier details. It features a mechanical manual transmission that complements its character.

This Jaguar XK 120 SE is in exceptionally good mechanical condition. The engine runs beautifully, and gear changes are direct and mechanical. Cosmetically, the car is in driver’s condition with a deep black paint finish. The combination of the SE trim, 3.4-liter engine, and black finish makes this a distinctive model within the XK series.

Built during a period when Jaguar was gaining international prestige with technically advanced sports cars, the XK 120 was a key model influencing later Jaguars. The SE variants are notable for their finer finish and sportier tuning.

This 1954 Jaguar XK 120 SE is a final-year example of a series that established Jaguar as an international sports car brand. With its engine, SE specification, excellent condition, and black finish, it represents the period when the XK 120 built its reputation.
