Gateway Classic Cars of Houston is proud to present this 1989 Jeep Grand Wagoneer. The Jeep Wagoneer is a luxury 4x4 produced and marketed under Jeep by successive automakers from 1962 to 1991. The 1989–1991 model years are considered the pinnacle due to several upgrades. These upgrades include improved wood siding and modernized aluminum alloy wheels, which replaced their gold-colored inlays with gunmetal grey metallic. Following Chrysler's acquisition of AMC in 1987, significant improvements were introduced. For example, an electrocoat primer was used for better rust proofing, and all exterior colors were applied using a two-stage base-clearcoat system. The 1988 models remained largely similar to their predecessors, except for the introduction of new features such as a sunroof, keyless entry, an overhead console with map lights, and a rear wiper in 1989. With the arrival of the Pentastar, several enhancements were made, including improved anti-corrosion measures, better overall vehicle assembly, and the standardization of certain components previously sourced from a diverse list of car manufacturers. This upscale variant of the Cherokee boasted a carpeted interior, a standard 5.9-liter V8 engine, a 3-speed Chrysler TorqueFlite A727 automatic transmission, and a Selec-Trac NP229 transfer case. It featured a wood-panel exterior and a list price on par with a Corvette. In 1989 alone, 10,159 units of the Jeep Grand Wagoneer were built, contributing to a total of 101,637 units throughout its production period.
