Description

The Jensen Interceptor III was produced starting in 1971 as the third and final evolution of Jensen Motors’ Interceptor series. The model built upon the previously introduced Interceptor, which debuted in 1966 as a large grand tourer with Italian body styling and a conventional steel chassis. In 1971, the third series underwent further refinement of the front end and exterior details, positioning the Interceptor III as a luxury touring car with a distinctly international character.

With the Interceptor III, Jensen combined British assembly with primarily American technology. This meant a large V8 powertrain in a relatively exclusive body—a formula adopted by several British brands during that period, but one Jensen developed with its own distinct identity. The Interceptor was produced in limited numbers, partly because Jensen operated as a relatively small manufacturer. This gave the Jensen Interceptor III a distinctive place among the more common grand tourers of the 1970s.

The 1973 Interceptor III belongs to the final years of the series, which remained in production until 1976. It is regarded as the most refined interpretation of the model, with a level of equipment and finish consistent with its segment. The car has earned a permanent place in the history of British luxury coupes and convertibles from the early 1970s.

The Jensen Interceptor III is known for its low, wide body and large rear glass panel, giving it a distinctive silhouette. Designed as a comfortable grand tourer, it stands out from many British sports cars of the same period, which were often more compact and functional. The striking body styling of the Interceptor series remained evident in the third series.

This 1973 Jensen Interceptor III has been idle for some time but is drivable. Some maintenance is recommended before driving it on public roads. It lends itself to further refinement or continued use in its current condition. As a collectible grand tourer, it combines original engineering with periodic attention, making it suitable for everyday use.

Within the Jensen lineup, the Interceptor III occupies a distinctive position due to its combination of British manufacturing and foreign engineering. This blend characterizes the Jensen brand during this period. The car reflects how British niche manufacturers in the 1970s designed their models around their own interpretation of luxury and cruising speed.

The 1973 Jensen Interceptor III is a notable grand tourer from the final phase of the Interceptor series, with a clear place in Jensen Motors’ history. This example has been idle for an extended period, is drivable, and requires some maintenance before being driven on public roads. For a better understanding of the lot, attending the viewing days is recommended.
