Lamborghini Espada 1970 for sale
Introduced at the 1968 Geneva Motor Show, the Lamborghini Espada revolutionized the exotic car market as the world's first true four-seater supercar. Designed by Marcello Gandini at Bertone, this grand tourer (GT) combined the striking, low-slung styling of a spacesuit-era coupe with genuine cabin space for four adults and their luggage. Powered by Lamborghini’s legendary 4.0-liter V12 engine, the Espada was both fast and unique, becoming the brand's best-selling model of its era and proving that high-end performance could be paired with luxury and practicality.
Exterior: The exterior of this 1970 Lamborghini Espada S2 is simply stunning. The iconic lines of the Bertone-designed body are beautifully complemented by a grey metallic finish. It retains classic, aggressive proportions—low, long, and wide—enhanced by Miura-style wheels and signature three-eared knock-off spinners.
While the car underwent a full restoration in the 1990s, it was repainted approximately 20 years ago. The finish remains excellent, with consistent panel gaps and straight bodywork. A few minor marks have appeared over the last two decades, which is typical given the age. The stainless steel bumpers and chrome trim are in top condition, and the car sits on a set of Michelin XWX tires.
Interior: The Espada's cabin is a masterpiece of 1970s design. Fully reupholstered in beautiful beige leather during the 1990s restoration, the interior offers a stunning contrast to the grey exterior. The craftsmanship is evident, especially in the leather door cards and dashboard, with high-quality walnut woodwork added during the restoration. The leather has developed a lovely, light patina, and the carpets and headliner remain in great condition.
The cabin is ergonomic and comfortable for four adults, with a generous trunk. The distinct gauge cluster and unique levers for the rear windows add to its character. The air conditioning is fully functional, making it ideal for summer touring.
Engine & Mechanics: Mechanically restored in the 1990s and maintained since, this Espada is in peak performance condition. Recently, the cylinder heads were rebuilt, including planing, new valves, and valve seats. The ignition system has been modernized with electronic ignition and new components for improved reliability.
The car runs and sounds magnificent. It is a vintage exotic that can be driven with confidence, featuring a quiet cabin at speed and excellent handling. The five-speed manual transmission offers a direct, engaging driving experience, complemented by the glorious V12 soundtrack.
History & Documentation: This Espada was delivered to its first owner in Rome, Italy, in 1970. It remained in Italy until 1976, when it was imported to southern Sweden. After several owners, it underwent a comprehensive restoration in the 1990s.
The car has been featured in several automotive magazines, receiving high praise for its design and condition. It comes with a folder of recent service records, a clear ownership history, MOT papers dating back to 1982, the original Italian registration documents, and the toolkit, spare wheel, and jack.
