Description

The Maserati 3500 GT Touring is one of those timeless Italian sportscars with tons of style. Probably one of the finest designs made by coachbuilder Touring Superleggera, and today still an epitome of Italian style. Beside the beauty of the body and interior, the 3500 GT also has a fantastic engine which is an evolution of the famous Maserati racecars of the fifties. How much more pedigree can you get in one car then ?

The example we are offering for sale is one of the finest on the market. Completely restored between 2005 and 2009, with most if its original metalwork still in place. This was possible as the Maserati spent most of its life in Southern Italy (Napels) and was not prone to rust and oxidtation as most of these cars suffered from. The full electric wireloom was replaced and made to original specification by using factory spec wiring and wire colours. Original NOS Cibié headlights were fitted, and the interior beautifully retrimmed in the finest full grain hides. A complete suspension rebuild was executed with correct Koni Classic shock absorbers, and the brake system completely overhauled. Refurbished period Borrani wire wheels with sticky Avon Turbosteel tyres were fitted. The level of fit and finish on this 3500 GT Touring is from a very high level and perfectly suited to enter any world class concours d'elegance on the globe.

As the owner is a true aesthete, he decided to give his pride and joy some small personal tweaks to improve both driving experience and general styling of the car. A Weber carburetor set was fitted instead of the Lucas injection system, to offer more driving sensations and a greater sound. These correct and period Weber 42DCOE carburetors were restored by famous specialist Viktor Gunther. To emphasize the elegant lines of the Touring bodied Maserati, the chrome sill strips and rear wing tops were not fitted (and it turned to be a real improvement IMHO !).These little tweaks are of course easy to bring back to original specification, as the factory fitted Lucas injection system with Maserati airbox will come with the car, as well as the restored and rechromed sill and wing strips.

In 2019, the owner had the engine completely rebuilt by british motor engineer Raymond Sherratt as he was not happy with the perfomance. Today, the straight-six engine (with twin spark ignition) runs like a dream and offers a great driving sensation.

The Maserati is well documented, with the original Italian "Libretto" still in the file, together with an ASI plate. The restoration is documented with lots of invoices and photographs, and also many magazines in which the car appeared are in the documentation file. Also the original tool kit is still with the car. together with a Borrani spare wheel.

If you are looking for one of the best Maserati 3500 GT Touring on the market, then this example is definitely one to consider. Finished in the most beautiful colour combination, and ready to be enjoyed and admired. This is a true Italian thoroughbred in the condition as it deserves.
