Ready for the new Motor Racing Legends GT3 series

Coming under the full ownership of Fiat in the nineties, Maserati was able to benefit from the potential of the Ferrari V8 engine for the launch of its new 4200GT Coupé.

In 2003, Maserati decided to revive their long history of motorsport and introduced racing versions of the Coupe starting in 2003. The introduction of the new Coupe racecars spawned the new racing series Trofeo Maserati, a single-marque motorsport championship, similar to the Ferrari Challenge. Maserati showcased the Trofeo racecar and then debuted a more hardcore version called the Trofeo Light a.k.a The Supertrofeo. The Trofeo Light was developed for further international racing series beyond the Trofeo Maserati including the Italian GT Championship, Rolex Sports Car Series and FIA GT3 European Championship.
The Trofeo Light was produced by Maserati’s racing department in collaboration with Italtecnica of Torino. It was significantly lighter than the regular Trofeo due to almost all of its body panels being replaced with composite materials and featured significant aerodynamic modifications. Updates included a more aerodynamic front bumper with a new adjustable splitter, the engine hood received vents for improved cooling, larger side skirts with integrated exhaust pipes, much lighter rims, massive carbon fiber rear wing, upgraded brakes, AP racing Airjack system, modified ECU and a modified intake system. The 4.2 liter V8 was upgraded to 430hp and 339 lb-ft of torque. The transmission is a six-speed sequential by X-Trac. The suspension system was also completely revised with a new structure and tubular steel arms.
Chassis number 04 is one of only 10 cars built and was used by Girogio Cipollo and co-driver Bruno Corradi in the 2004 Italian GT Championship. As verified by period reports the Trofeo Light performed well, placing 1st in class at both Magione, Pergusa, and Vallelunga. Chassis 04 was the highest finishing Trofeo Light in class, with a final points total of 214, just below Autorlando Sport SRL’s Porsche 911.

Acquired in 2019 by a Belgian Maserati collector the car was sparingly used in private track sessions. The car has received full service to a total of Euro 31.000 by Officina Valenti in Belgium.
