This was the fastest sedan of the 1960s. In the early 1960s, Giulio Alfieri began working on a new project. Inspired by the success of Maserati's GranTurismo cars, Maserati envisioned a sedan that combined elegance, refinement, power, and performance. With a top speed of 230 km/h, it was the fastest sedan of its time.

The design was by stylist Pietro Frua, drawing inspiration from the 5000GT, with bodywork built by Vignale. The car features a modern metal monocoque structure with box-section steel panels replacing the traditional tubular frame. Its 4.2-liter V8 engine was derived from the powertrain used in the 5000GT.

Among its most famous owners are actors, directors, and screenwriters who have shaped cinema history.
