Opening the engine compartment is like taking a time travel back to 1962 when the car was new. The ignition, the pipes, the block, everything looks like the car just rolled off the assembly line. Not surprisingly, driving this 190 SL is a downright joy. This 190 SL may be close to its former retirement age, but it is fitter than many a thirtysomething. The engine runs perfectly, the clutch and transmission operate smoothly and add to the driving pleasure. The suspension of the 190 SL is perfectly sprung and damped thanks to the frequent use of new parts and contributes greatly to the modern handling.
