The Mercedes-Benz 220 Cabriolet A, for many people one of the most beautiful convertibles of the post-war period, combines a pre-war look with post-war technology.
Our 220 is an automobile for "friends of history". The documentation is extremely extensive, in addition to the complete on-board folder including the original service booklet (extremely rare !!!) including many entries from Mercedes-Benz in Zurich, there are various other original documents such as the brochure, the "Catalog A", the "Equipment list type 220 ", And the" new lubrication and maintenance plan for type 220 ".
There is also the Becker-Autoradio customer service booklet, the operating instructions for the radio, the âpacking slipâ, the warranty card with the stamp of the company âMax Egon Becker / Autoradiowerkâ and the âAutosuper Monaco station tableâ.
There are also two folders with data, receipts, invoices, history, sales contracts, etc. There are original sales agreements from 1958 and 1992, an ACS membership card from 1952, many original invoices from Mercedes-Benz and much more (receipts and invoices for around 115,000 CHF from 1992 to today).
The first delivery took place in 1953 to a wealthy first owner by the MB agency at Badenerstrasse 119 in CH-8004 Zurich. In 1958, Dr. D.R. from Rüschlikon this 220 Cabriolet A also at the MB agency at Badenerstrasse 119 in CH-8004 Rüschlikon, at that time with 65,000 km and a three-month guarantee at a price of 9,800.00 CHF (original sales contract available). Miss Dr. D.R. gave this Cabriolet A to Mr. T.W. from Zurich with whom she was related. On October 3rd, 1992 this convertible was bought by Dr. C.S. acquired from Küsnacht. He was with the family of the late T.W. befriended and was able to acquire the 220 for 27,500.00 CHF with a mileage of 166,300 (original sales contract also available). The convertible has remained in the possession of the family of Dr. C.S. The 220 is therefore from 4th hand and has a total mileage of 187,000 km today.
The rare Cabriolet A, of which only 1,278 copies were made, is in the following condition:
Restoration started (2016). The convertible was dry-ice blasted, the body partially dismantled. There are many new parts such as fenders, sheet metal parts, a new set of wood is included, etc. Likewise, all "original" parts are included. The convertible is partially dismantled and complete except for the smallest parts (screws, etc.).
The body was repainted from the original green to white at the end of the 80s.
The interior has not been restored with a beautiful patina, the roof has been renewed, the glazing is completely original (very rare!),
The mechanics (matching engine!) Worked like one is used to from a Mercedes-Benz until the beginning of the restoration. Around three months before the start of the restoration, a major service including completely new tires was carried out.
All numbers match (engine matching, hood number, body number, etc.), all badges are present, and all impact numbers (as far as they can be assessed) are correct.
Exciting project!
