Vehicle history:
The so-called “California Pagoda” has no soft top and no soft top compartment. Instead, it came standard with a rear emergency seat and a hardtop. This special edition has nothing to do with the US state of California, nor is it an export model. It was an optional extra that was first offered in February 1967 with price list no. 18 for the 250 and 280 SL. This was preceded by a study of this version, which was presented to the Mercedes-Benz board on September 3, 1965. It was intended to meet the frequent customer request for a 2-seater coupé with 2 extra emergency seats. Many California Pagodas were purchased as second or third vehicles at the time and were therefore rarely driven. As a result, a large proportion of them are in exceptionally good condition today. This very beautiful Pagoda was imported back to Germany from the USA in 2012. The current owner, an accomplished Mercedes-Benz master craftsman and enthusiast, restored the vehicle for himself and spared no expense or effort. In 2013, he took delivery of the beautiful Pagoda and spent 13 wonderful years with it. Today, the vehicle is available to its new owner in very good condition and well maintained.
