This is a very nice Mercedes-Benz 500SL. The car was first allowed to circulate in the United States in 1983 and has always been well maintained and cared for up until now.The body is in good condition and has original and thin sheet metal. The body has some light traces of use which are consistent with the age and mileage of the car. The chrome bumpers are clean as well as the rubbers on the body. The car has a black convertible top which works well and fits everywhere. The 500SL stands on original rims with tires in the correct sizes and with sufficient profile. As usual with Mercedes-Benz models from this generation, the interior appears to be made for eternity. That the 500SL was marketed as a luxury car becomes clear once again when we look at the equipment of this example. The car has climate control, heated seats, electric mirrors, electric windows, cruise control and in this case the much loved but rare rear seat. In fact, the 500SL was the top model in the SL range at the time. The car is powered by a 5.0 litre V8 engine, which in this case is mated to a four-speed automatic transmission. Equipped with Bosch D-Jetronic fuel injection, the engine produces 240 hp and, like the interior, is built to last. The mileage of almost 120,000 miles means in the case of this engine that things have just started to run smoothly. Thanks to its enormous stroke capacity, the engine always has plenty of torque and can effortlessly pull the 500SL forward and, if required, even up to a top speed of 225 kilometres per hour. To safely shake off that speed, it's good to know that the 500SL also has ABS. The brakes are easy to apply and the chassis gives the car a pleasant ride. Finally, the automatic gearbox shifts silky smooth. In short, a well cared for Mercedes-Benz 500SL ready for many miles of open road driving pleasure.
