The Mercedes-Benz 240GD was a diesel powered variant of the W460 G-Class that was introduced for the 1980 model year. The 240 GD was offered in both short and long wheelbases, which included wagon, convertible, and panel van body styles. Alongside the civilian 240GD, a sparsely equipped military spec version known as the 461 was also built. These military variants are often referred to as "Wolf." The 240GD was powered by Mercedes' OM616 D24 engine, which was a 2.4L diesel inline four that generated 72hp and 101 lb ft of torque. Drive was sent from the engine to all four wheels via a 4 speed manual transmission. Production of the Mercedes-Benz 240GD ended in 1991.
