Initial MG A model that was a pioneer in British roadster history. Comes in a playful color combination with a navy blue soft top that serves as the cherry on the cake. Features a luggage rack on the trunk lid, making the MG A iconic.
The MG A was built from 1955 to 1962 and was the first car designed by MG that incorporated early, recognizable aerodynamics and a fresh design approach. After World War II, MG focused on aircraft components, tank maintenance, and weapons distribution, which helped them recover financially. They designed the MG A in 1951, diverging from their usual approach, and decided to start anew. The car was unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 1955.
It has a sporty and luxurious appearance and performance for its time. Under the hood, it features a 1489 cc straight-four engine, producing 72 horsepower, corresponding to the model code '1500'. In 1959, the engine displacement increased to 1588 cc, creating the MG A 1600. In 1960, it was further upgraded to 1622 cc with increased power. Between 1958 and 1960, a high-performance sports model with dual overhead camshaft and high compression ratio was produced, achieving notable track victories.
In 1962, the MG A was succeeded by the MG B. Over 100,000 MG A's were sold in total.
The MG A 1500 is the first variant of the model. It features a four-cylinder inline engine from the MG Magnette, with two SU carburettors for added sportiness. Originally, the blueprints were discarded due to a partnership between BMC and Austin to establish Austin-Healey, but declining sales of MG's simpler models led to the revival of the MG A. Both coupe and open roadster versions are highly sought after as classic cars.
