This 54-year-old Millésime looks as if she's driven straight out of the original owner's manual. While most Minis have been modified or restored across the decades, this Innocenti still wears her original Rosso IN 304 paintwork with immense pride. The panel gaps match. The spot welds in the roof gutter look perfectly sound. The factory imperfections are all still there, making clear this car has never been messed with.
The name Millésime was not chosen by chance. Much like a distinguished wine from a top year, this Mini hasn't just survived time, she has gained character along the way. Pure, unblended, and carrying a patina that simply cannot be replicated.
Originally manufactured on 4 October 1972, she had to wait for her delivery till 23 June 73'. By 11 July 73' she was already clocking her first SERVIZIO GRATUITO at 1.627 km. The records show she hit 15.000 km still in the 70's, changed hands on 25 February 1984, and kept going through the 90's and 00's with only a quiet gap through the 10's. She arrives today with just 44.967 km on the clock. Complete with all original delivery papers and service records dating back to the 70's.
Under the bonnet we find a 998cc COOPER specification engine, the same unit as the English MK2 Cooper 998. At the heart of it sits the legendary 12G295 cylinder head (also referred to as 28G222 in production manuals), paired with D-topped pistons giving a compression ratio of 9.0:1. The crankshaft is the 8G2733 (forging number 12A595), combined with a 3.44:1 final drive, a perfect balance of acceleration and drivability. She also carries the AEA 630 camshaft, a spec also found in 1098cc models. Recent maintenance covers a new water pump, thermostat housing, heater valve, v-belts, fresh brake pads and hoses, and more. She rolls on Yokohama A008 tyres.
I've done myself 1.300 km in her, touring through the north of Italy. And what a 1.300 km that has been. This car is a true joy to drive, so well balanced, and the most fuel efficient Mini I've ever had, averaging over 1:18. On the interior we find the original Nero Innocenti 1001 trim, fully intact. The wooden dashboard, original BLAUPUNKT radio, and Italian-spec ashtrays (bigger than the English ones, did you know?) make it an enjoyable place to be. The front quarter windows are there specifically to let cigarette smoke out while driving. Only the front carpet has been swapped to rubber, as they are very fond of doing in Italy.
