motodrome offer this charming 1966 example of the well-loved Morris 1000 Traveller, this one a Deluxe model finished in Smoke Grey with blue grey interior.

To any sentient person, the colour actually looks very pale blue, but Austin Morris at the time gave their colours strange names – it is the correct original colour though.

Travellers make excellent practical classics – they’re simple, so easy to drive, and very versatile, and with it’s A-series 1098cc engine seemingly in rude health this one performs admirably. .

It seems to be in standard factory specification with the exception of:

• Alternator conversion
• Servo assisted brakes
• Additional gauges for oil pressure and coolant temperature
• Auxiliary front lights
• Rear fog and reversing lamps

It’s also fitted with a towbar and electrics.

Odometer reading 2000 miles, which for the avoidance of doubt is incorrect, a new speedo having been fitted at 106000 miles, and the V5 shows just 5 previous keepers which isn’t bad for an almost 60 year old example

We have the original green logbook showing it was first supplied to a Wendy Ludford of Maldon in Essex, and it seems to have stayed in that part of the world most of it’s life.

History wise, it seems to have undergone substantial body and interior restoration in the late 1990’s at around 96000 miles, and there are a selection of photos of this.
In 2020 to 2022 it underwent further substantial work including a full engine rebuild, new clutch, rebuilt brakes etc etc, and completely new woodwork.

We have bills, pictures, and old MOT’s back to 1999, plus the original green logbook.

On test it performed utterly faultlessly and, whilst it’s not in mint concours condition being an older restoration, I’d say it’s pretty good and will hold it’s head up well in the pub car park etc. Basically it’s not so nice you’d be frightened to use it…

It is of course RFL, MOT and ULEZ exempt
