The Peugeot 201 was made in Sochaux between July 1929 and September 1937. The 201 was presented at the 1929 Paris Motor Show. The stock market crisis of 1929 forced many competing companies into bankruptcy. This gave the 201 free rein on the car market.

The 201 had many variants. Initially it was powered by an engine with 1,122 cc displacement with 23 hp and 3,500 revolutions per minute (maximum speed: 80 km / h), followed by an engine of 1,307 cc, and finally by a 1,465 cc.
