This 1967 Pontiac GTO Convertible is a strikingly beautiful, PHS documented muscle car with fantastic options! In the early 1960s, American car buyers who were seeking high performance automobiles were stuck with limited options; they could buy a big full-size car with big motor, a smaller compact-style car with a smaller motor, or they could look at buying a sportier foreign import. The other option for American motorheads was swapping a hopped up motor into a smaller car to achieve more performance thanks to the higher engine output and lighter weight body. That all changed in 1964 when the Pontiac Motor Division of General Motors, with engineer John DeLorean and General Manager Pete Estes at the helm, came out with the GTO option package on its intermediately-sized Tempest LeMans A-Body platform. The GTO's standard equipment included a hopped-up 389 V8, 3 speed manual transmission with Hurst shifter, and several dressed up items, and optional equipment included a Muncie 4 speed manual transmission, limited-slip "Safe-T-Track" rear differential, and an even hotter "Tri-Power" intake comprised of three dual-barrel carburetors. While the folks at Pontiac had high hopes for the GTO package, few could have ever expected that the GTO would kick off the Muscle Car Era of the 1960s and early 70s where virtually every American automaker attempted to replicate the high-performance GTO. As the years progressed, Pontiac would spin off the GTO into its own distinct model and its popularity continued to rise. By 1967, the beloved "Goat" as it would be nicknamed, was largely a re-trimmed '66. Up front, the grille featured a new aluminum mesh design that elevated it above the more basic Pontiac models. Down the sides, new enlarged rocker panel trim gave the '67 GTO a major bump in curb appeal above its predecessor as well. The tail end was also re-worked a bit with perhaps the most notable update being the taillights that shifted away from the thin horizontal slit design used in 1966 to a new setup consisting of twin sets of a pair of stacked slots. Of course, the biggest update occurring to the 1967 Pontiac GTO was the shift away from the 389 V8 to an even bigger 400 cubic inch V8. In total, Pontiac produced a mere 9,517 GTO Convertibles in 1967 which makes this particular example quite a rare piece of muscle car history. This GTO comes to us after spending over 10 years in the loving hands of an east coast based collector who clearly took great care of this Pontiac muscle car. Powering this '67 GTO is a Numbers Matching 400 Cubic Inch V8 engine fed by a single 4 barrel carburetor that together were said to have created 335 horsepower when new. The 400 V8 is backed by a 3 speed automatic transmission that makes this classic Pontiac muscle car a joy to drive, especially with the his/her shifter. Exhaust exits this Pontiac GTO's powerplant via a dual exhaust setup that create a terrific throaty sound out of the rear tailpipes. This '67 GTO Convertible is absolutely loaded with options! With power brakes, bringing this GTO to a complete stop is much easier especially with all that horsepower under the hood. This 1967 Pontiac also comes equipped with power steering which is another welcome addition on any classic muscle car since it makes squeezing into a tight parking space at the local car show feel almost effortless. You'll be able to keep the rubber to the pavement since this '67 GTO Convertible comes outfitted with a Safe-T-Track limited slip rear differential. The black vinyl power convertible top is in fantastic shape and it goes up and down with ease with the simple flick of a switch. When the convertible top is down, it tucks neatly below the matching vinyl boot. Riding on a set of redline radial tires mounted on Rally II wheels, this 1967 GTO has a fantastic look and even better ride. The body of this 1967 GTO Convertible has been correctly refinished in Burgundy paint that completes the exterior look of this gorgeous muscle car. The interior of this 1967 Pontiac GTO Convertible is absolutely stunning! The front bucket seats and rear bench seat have been correctly reupholstered in black vinyl that give this muscle car a truly upscale look and feel. The matching black door panels, black carpeting, woodgrain trimmed center console and instrument cluster, steering wheel, and padded dash are all in fantastic shape as well and appear to retain a nice stock look. You'll be able to stay cool while cruising thanks to factory air conditioning system which is a welcome option on any classic muscle car. The instrument cluster is equipped with a 120 MPH speedometer, fuel gauge, and clock, as well as indicator lights for engine temperature, battery charging, and oil pressure. The dash is finished off with controls for the A/C, an AM/FM radio, locking glovebox, and grab bar. Whether you're buying your very first classic car or you're adding to your existing muscle car collection, this 1967 Pontiac GTO Convertible would make an excellent addition.
