Not a restoration but I am the ORIGINAL OWNER.
455 HO RAM AIR, HIGH RISE ALUMINUM INTAKE MANIFOLD, HOOD MOUNTED TACHOMETER, 4 BOLT MAINS, MUNCIE "ROCK CRUSHER" CLOSE RATIO 4 SP TRANSMISSION HURST SHIFTER, 4:55, POSITRACTION TYPE C DIFFERENTIAL, FUNCTIONAL REAR SPOILER, (SHAPE OF UPSIDE DOWN AIRPLANE WING) DESIGNED SPECIFICALLY FOR THE GTO 4 BARREL ROCHESTER QUADRAJET CARBORATOR, TRACTION BARS.
The engine has only 1500 mi since completely rebuilt. New bearings and synchros in transmission and the Differential has a new crown and pinion set. 0-60 mph in under 4 sec all in first gear! Because of the close-ratio transmission when accelerating stays a long time in first gear and a short time in second, third and fourth to do the quarter-mile. When shifting at redline (5500 rpm) in first the tack will only drop to 4000 rpm for each succeeding gears so keeps the engine in the maximum horsepower range of 4400 rpm. All this in 13.5 seconds at 99 mph. (for quarter-mile)
GM was on strike in Detroit in 1971 (GTO only manufactured in the US although I purchased in Canada) and it was a long one. I had to reorder the GTO three times! For this reason, only a small number of white 455HO Ram Air with red black striping was produced. In the 49 years of owning this, I have only seen one in Northern Ontario about 40 years ago! I belong to the largest Pontiac Club in the US (Pontiac Oakland Club International {POCI}) and was told I could enter it at their yearly Convention, not clean the bugs off the windshield and win a trophy as I would be the only one in my class! There are hundreds of 1970s and prior but not 1970.
History: We went on our honeymoon to Florida in this GTO - many many stories over the 49 years owning this great car - could write a book!. For several years before purchasing a Motorhome pulled a 6000 lbs trailer through every state and province in the US and Canada. Going up a steep grade in the Rocky Mountains I could drop it into second and burn rubber pulling a total of 10,000 lbs! I am not just the original owner but the only mechanic who has ever worked on this vehicle. It has for its entire life been stored in a garage. I have a neurological disease that makes driving the GTO too difficult so it is time to say goodbye.
