Description

Anyone who knows us a little knows that we regularly visit Italy, not just for 'la dolce vita' what the country has to offer. Anyone in Europe looking for a classic car with a hard, rust-free body will soon end up in Italy. Of course we know every prejudice, you can sometimes find well-preserved cars in such a car-crazy country, provided you know the way of course. Yet sometimes things turn out a little differently than Wayne Carini shows... On a sunny day in April 2006, it was lunch time, and the exit to San Giovanni Valdarno near Arezzo was taken with growling stomachs. At the time, on a quiet square in the modest center you could order a delicious pasta arabbiata for six euros, a glass of wine and coffee for less than ten euros. During that lunch a bright yellow (Speedgelb they say in Germany) Porsche 964 stopped in front of the dusty terrace, a wonderful woman behind the wheel. When leaving the square you take a look at such a car, nothing 964! Many Italians have no interest in 'old' and often spend big money when a car manufacturer introduces another cosmetic restyling.
Just to give the impression of being fashionable and well informed. For example, 3.2s, SCs and even F models have been cosmetically converted into 964s, this was one of those cars. A pristine, perfectly adapted 911 2.4T in a 964 guise. Cursing in our church, common in such a culture. Meanwhile, that lovely lady had also finished lunch and we started talking about her 911. Handed over the thousandth card in case she ever... 2008, credit crisis! Phone from Arezzo, a month later the yellow fury was shivering from the cold on our doorstep. To save you a long story, we decided to return the car to its original condition. And the prejudice was somewhat correct, the car also technically needed some attention. We had not test driven in San Giovanni Valdarno at the time. We entrusted our 911 to Bark Classic Cars, a very professional and friendly classic car restorer. 'No rush Philipp, in the wasted hours you make it as discussed...'
Over a period of more than ten years, the screens were necessarily renewed all around, the car was then expertly painted by Auto Classica Rubio, just see what that car painter can do, in the original color Aubergine (025-9-2). The interior was renewed in the original color and materials, the engine was completely overhauled (including new pistons/cylinders), the clutch was renewed, the brakes were renewed and, for example, all suspension rubbers were replaced. Numerous details became original again and of course she also had to drive like a new one. If you can do something in this world, you don't have that many 'lost hours', so we were able to save for almost fifteen years to pay the invoice, which was also expertly drawn up. But then you have something! Moreover, the purchase price of a not entirely original 964 was somewhat lower at that time than it is today. It was no longer a profit maker of course, but it is now a more or less new 911 T Coupe. Mind you, a 2.4ltr. from the last year of production of the F model. They drive the best. For example, they have a smooth-shifting gearbox, not that of the previous 2.2ltr. where you always have to look for first gear. We checked the engine and gearbox number before Mrs. received her money, everything matched. And now she is now shining again in the original and perfectly applied color in our showroom. The car and its story, both nice. The lady has now seen the photos, incredible!
