Description

Last of MFI 911's, 123 Built, 30 Year Ownership

We own this Sondermodell and it can be viewed at our Jacksonville, FL location.

This is an incredible opportunity to own an exceedingly rare 1976 Porsche 911 2.7 MFI Coupe. Numbers matching and original colors, this is one of just 123 Sondermodell's made for the German market. The Sondermodell was the very last 911 produced with the renowned and coveted type 911/83 engine - the exact same one used in the legendary 1973 Carrera RS. All 123 cars received a special 9000 series VIN and chassis number typically reserved for racing versions. Never an "official" production model, these cars were reportedly built to utilize leftover 2.7L RS Spec engine parts. The Sondermodell received $7,100 in factory options including: 210 bhp 2.7L RS-spec MFI engine, Limited slip differential, 18mm anti-rollbar, oil pressure and level gauge, Bilstein shock absorbers, type 915/43 5 speed gearbox with special 26:25 fourth gear ratio, 1.5 HP starter motor, Rear Carrera badge delete, Sport 380 mm steering wheel, flared wheel arches, 6J and 7J 15" Fuchs wheels, Dunlop 185/70 VER 15 and 215/60 VR 15 tires, light weight needle-felt velour carpet, aluminum door sill trim, mechanical speedometer with five digit odometer, manual rollup windows, and Front A-Type cast iron brake calipers.

Produced in the final two months of the 1976 model year, this Sondermodell has had just 2 owners and recently came out of a 30+ year private collection. Delivered new in Munich, Germany, the car remained there until it was imported to Louisiana in 1986, before being acquired by the previous owner in 1993 and relocated to Florida. Since then, this beautiful Sondermodell was stored at David Glenn's workshop. David Glenn, a rock star in the Porsche Racing community, had been the car's caretaker since 1993. David has been involved with Porsche since 1972 as a key member of top race teams including Brumos, Rohr Racing, Kelly Moss Racing and Champion Racing. David also worked for Porsche Motorsport NA from 1999-2011 performing trackside & tech support for drivetrain and suspension. He additionally built engines at RUF Automobile in Germany from 1985 to 1990, building all 20 engines for the RUF Yellowbirds.

In 1993 this Sondermodell received a full professional repaint, and in 2004 David Glenn rebuilt the engine and transmission at 115,517 km. In 2019 the car had a full interior restoration using material from Lakewell. Since 2019 OEM front and rear shocks were installed, Fuchs wheels were restored with new tires added, the brake system was refreshed, new front sway bar and A-arm bushings, leak down and compression tests, valve clearance adjustment, and all fluids replaced and a full inspection performed.

With just 2,724 km (1,692 miles) since the expert engine and transmission rebuilds, this amazing rare 911 is ready to go 100,000 more miles with general maintenance. It has been in climate controlled storage for the past 30 years so the paint is very good. It has been methodically driven 10-15 miles every 2 months since the rebuild to keep everything moving, and prevent leaks, and recently completed a 250 mile road trip with no issues.

Sondermodell's don't come up for sale often and it's even more rare to find one in this condition with this pedigree.

Inspections welcomed.
