Description

The Renault Dauphine is a car model of the French car manufacturer Renault. The model was launched in 1956 as the successor to the Renault 4CV. It was almost unchanged because the 4CV served as a basis: the Dauphine also had an engine in the back. The engine capacity was increased from 760 to 845 cc, which gave it 32 hp, 11 hp more than the 4CV. The Dauphine was somewhat heavier than the 4CV, due to the length increase of 30 centimetres. The Dauphine was a success, between 1956 and 1967 2.12 million of them were built. The last Dauphine came off the production line in 1965 and the last Dauphine-Gordini in 1967. Besides the standard model, which could reach 115 km/h, there was also a Gordini version, which initially had a power output of 37.5 hp and a top speed of 128 km/h, later followed by a 40 hp engine. In 1962, 1000 examples were built as a sports car in the color white with blue, broad stripes over the trunk lid, the roof and the bonnet. The wheels of the Gordini were mounted on this version and the headlights had a larger diameter of 18 cm against the normal version with a diameter of 16 cm. Engine power was increased to 55 hp. A year later a series of 1500 units was released with disc brakes all round. Due to all these changes, the Gordini version disappeared, but returned in 1963 to replace the Ondine.
