Rolls-Royce gained fame at the beginning of the last century with the 40/50 HP Silver Ghost, which was renowned for its exceptional quality and earned the title "the best car in the world." Its reputation as a large, luxurious, comfortable, and high-quality vehicle has endured. In 1925, the Silver Ghost was succeeded by the 40/50 HP New Phantom, later known as the Phantom I.

By that time, Rolls-Royce had established a factory in Springfield, Massachusetts, where models for the American market were assembled, including the chassis, engine, and dashboard. The bodies were designed and built by coachbuilders, with Brewster being among the most prominent. Starting in 1925, Brewster was incorporated into the Rolls-Royce factory and developed their own model line for the Phantom chassis.

This particular Phantom I was transformed into a magnificent Sportster by Brewster. It features a spacious body with an opulent gray velour interior, offering the room of a limousine, but with a relatively low roofline that gives it a sporty appearance. The car's striking design elements include a red-and-black color scheme, black spoked wheels with whitewall tires, an Everflex roof, an extra trunk in the rear, and large, freestanding headlights.

Powered by a reliable 7668 cc inline six-cylinder engine, this imposing car has a lively character that allows it to stand out even in today's traffic. Delivered new in 1929 to A.Y. Goyen of Concord, Massachusetts, its second owner was George Howard Earle III, a businessman and diplomat who served as governor of Pennsylvania from 1934 to 1938 and as President Roosevelt’s special envoy to the Balkan countries.

The car was restored to original specifications in 1968 and was sold to Germany in 1989. It currently bears Belgian license plates. The Phantom I remains in very original condition, having been carefully maintained and kept in running condition since its complete restoration in the 1960s. Its engine has been replaced in the past, and extensive maintenance was performed by LMB Racing in Belgium a few years ago. The vehicle is in excellent technical condition, with a beautiful patina that adds to its charm.
