Description

1963 Rolls Royce Phantom V James Young PV15

Registration number: 729FXO

Chassis number: 5VA77

One of just 516 Examples produced. Cars built from 1963 onwards such as this one benefitted from the Cloud III's engine, which is said to have produced seven per cent more power; they also incorporated that model's revised frontage, with its quad headlamp arrangement and squatter radiator grille.

This right-hand drive Phantom V is a 1963 model with coachwork by James Young to design PV15. It was supplied new to an address in London's Park Lane, was exported to the USA during the early 1970s, and where it remained in the care of the same keeper since 1979. Following a long period of storage, the Phantom has been recommissioned & is now presented in superb driving order throughout. Indicated mileage which whilst unverified stands at 24,446 & is given some credence by the total lack of wear to the throttle & accelerator pedals in addition to the play free absolutely sharp steering & utterly smooth automatic gearbox.

Interior leather appears original & shows very very minimal use being in superb order. The headlining is also original with roof vents for the installed air conditioning. Woodwork is all present & correct in burr walnut in its original & somewhat faded condition. It would benefit from being refinished at some stage in the future. A cocktail cabinet is fitted to the centre with its requisite bottles & glasses.

The exterior is maroon over black with the older paintwork being very presentable & polishing up nicely. The brightwork is also in very good order. The car has recently been recommissioned with over £30,000 being spent on it to put it in tip-top order as it had covered less than a scant 1,000 miles in the past decade & was stored before that. The car is fitted with electric windows to the front & rear along with an electric division. We are in the process or putting a few hundred shakedown miles on the car prior to sale.

Rare & beautiful; this Phantom is a pleasure to drive. It is comfortable upfront & easily transports 7 people with recourse to the fold-out occasional seats. It has a real air of gravitas & grandeur when proceeding down the road in its stately fashion.
