Introduced in 1971, the Rover 3500S was the performance flagship of the P6 range, offering impressive pace and refinement for its era. Powered by a Buick-derived 3,528cc V8 producing 161bhp, it was paired with a manual gearbox denoted by the ‘S’ for Syncromesh. It could accelerate from 0-60mph in nine seconds and reach a top speed of 123mph.
Standard specifications included a matt black grille, improved post-1970 interior trim, and a factory-fitted vinyl roof. These features distinguished the later models from earlier P6 variants.
According to its BMIH Trust Certificate, this example was built on 18/09/1975, finished in Paprika with a black vinyl roof. It was optioned with factory power steering, dispatched to Julians Ltd. of Reading on 30/09/75, and first registered on 28/01/1976.
The car underwent a comprehensive £19,164 restoration by renowned Rover specialists, Kingsdown Garage, during 2015/2016. The restoration included a rebuilt 3.5-litre V8 with SD1 cylinder heads and sportier camshafts, a rebuilt LT77 five-speed manual gearbox, rebuilt differential and De Dion rear axle, overhauled brakes and suspension, a new radiator, an electric SU fuel pump, and a Revotec electronic cooling fan.
Purchased by our vendor four years ago, the vehicle has had a further £5,000 invested in maintenance. Approximately 5,500 miles have been covered during current ownership. It is offered with a fresh MOT until July 2027, issued with no advisories.
The car is accompanied by the Trust Certificate, numerous invoices, V5 documents, MOT certificates, and other history files, along with a branded Rover dust cover.
An appealing example of Rover's iconic V8 sporting saloon, this car is sensibly estimated. We encourage your inspection at our CarFest Sale.
