Description

This is a beautifully preserved, factory-built 1980 Shay Model A Roadster. It has just 16,850 original miles and has been meticulously cared for, always garage kept out of the elements.

Originally endorsed by Ford and sold new through Ford dealerships, the Shay combines the iconic, timeless styling of a 1929 Model A with the reliability, ease of drivability, and modern road manners of 1980 mechanicals.

The drivetrain features a 2.3-liter (140 cu in) SOHC inline 4-cylinder Ford 'Pinto' engine with 88 HP. It has a floor-shifted 4-speed manual transmission and original Ford 2-barrel carburetor setup. The vehicle is rear-wheel drive with a Ford 7.5-inch rear axle. Steering is modern rack-and-pinion, and the suspension includes independent front coil springs, providing a smoother ride than an original Model A. Braking is handled by power front disc brakes and rear drum brakes for confident stopping.

The body is made of high-strength, low-maintenance fiberglass finished in classic vintage tones. It features a fully functional rear fold-out rumble seat for extra passengers. The wheels are distinctive 18-inch wire spoke wheels wrapped in whitewall tires, with two extra tires included.

Factory options and period accessories include dual front fender-mounted spare tires, dual 'Ah-oo-gah' horns, a chrome headlight bar, and a flying quail radiator ornament. Comfort features include a flip-up/tilting front windshield, a functional floor heater, and a manual folding soft top.

This Shay starts, stops, and shifts beautifully. Built almost entirely with standard Ford parts, it is easy and inexpensive to service at any local repair shop. It comes with a clean title.
